Ex-officio: Judi Dallinger, Russ Morgan. Absent: Diana Allen, Jongnam Choi, John Miller. Ex-officio: Candace McLaughlin. After some technical difficulties, Chairperson Cynthia Struthers called the first Spring semester meeting of CGE to order at 3:45 p.m. in 207A Morgan Hall. The Minutes from December 2 were moved for approval by Feridun Tasdan, seconded by Esteban Araya, and unanimously approved. Because of the blizzard and a lack of urgent business, CGE did not meet on Feb. 3, as originally scheduled. The updated list of Spring 2011 CGE meeting dates was distributed. The Council will meet on March 3 and 24, April 7 and 21, and May 5. The Council had an extended discussion following the announcement that the Biological Sciences Department had added for science majors and minors to the course descriptions for both BOT 200 and ZOO 200. The question of whether courses intended only for majors should be General Education courses was raised and led to the question of whether any courses counted toward a major should be General Education courses. Council members differed on whether Gen Ed courses should be allowed to count toward the major. Questions of impact on student progress toward degree (including Grad Track), scheduling, faculty/staffing, the nature of the subject matter, and recruitment of students into a major from Gen Ed courses were raised. The Council agreed that this issue was complex and merited further consideration at a later date. Meanwhile, Dr. Struthers, on behalf of CGE, will contact the Biological Sciences Department and ask them to insert the language "recommended" prior to "for science majors and minors in the course descriptions for both BOT 200 and ZOO 200. Dr. Dallinger reminded Council members that departments Fall 2010 Gen Ed Assessment Reports are due by Friday (Feb. 18). Fifteen departments have already submitted their reports; she awaits the reports of the remaining seventeen departments offering Gen Ed courses. The proposed revisions to the Senates Bylaws concerning CGE were reviewed and no changes were suggested. Dr. Struthers will send them to the Faculty Senate for consideration. Dr. Struthers recapped the highlights of the CGE/GERC meeting with NCA/HLC team members earlier in the week. Discussions at that meeting focused on changes made in our Gen Ed curriculum because of the GERC report, assessment of Gen Ed, and advising at 鶹. Jess White moved to adjourn at 4:30; Andrea Hyde seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Respectfully submitted, Ginny Boynton, CGE Secretary !-01BCDLUx / 0 1 8 : G U a c n p ȼౕ̙мh>ihAh|ih6hhkht{5h|ih|i6hh4 hz; hz;hS hS hm9h4Zh|ih5Y&hzhkhz5htht{ hS 5aJhAhb5aJhAht{5aJ4!BCD0 1 $ % gd[w"gd5Y&gdz;gdt{$a$gdt{ ! # $ % 6 A F \ b c l )Tq)%0غضԲԍ؂hW ht,Eh4Z ht,EhhLhB*phhLB*phhLhLB*phhLh;| ht,Eht,E ht,EhvhO%qhuRhAhht,Ehz;hS h4Zht{hzh^h4 h>ihv38Cs!"$%'(*+,-.h.Rh-hjhUhR@hO%qhz;ht,Eh[w" !#$&')*+,-.gd-gdt{gd21h:p/ =!"#$% b 666666666vvvvvvvvv666666>6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~PJ_HmH nH sH tH @`@ bNormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List 6U6 F0 Hyperlink >*B*ph44 -0Header H$66 -0 Header CharCJaJ4 @"4 -0Footer H$616 -0 Footer CharCJaJ8A8 uRobject27>*S*Y(phHRH ]J0 Balloon TextCJOJQJ^JaJN/aN ]J0Balloon Text CharCJOJQJ^JaJPK![Content_Types].xmlj0Eжr(΢Iw},-j4 wP-t#bΙ{UTU^hd}㨫)*1P' ^W0)T9<l#$yi};~@(Hu* Dנz/0ǰ $ X3aZ,D0j~3߶b~i>3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
